Tradition

Every fall, since Garrettt was in Kindergarden, we ahve been going to Bates Nut Farm for a family activity. We buy the kids their wrist bands which include a hay maze: 10 mail boxes are hidden throught the maze with a stamp and you take your sheet and try to find all ten stamps. This year Paul and I stayed with Elsie and let the others go on their own. Then we go for a tractor hayride, do a little bit of candy shopping in their store, feed the animals, and end the trip by picking out our pumpkins.

We had fun visiting with Hafen cousins at Danny's homecoming.

Hunting for frogs is fun to do, fun to do, ...

Temple square was a nice break in our marathon drive. 10 hours. We left Idaho at 7:30 in the morning , picked up Paul from the airport around 1:30 (traffic and construction) and then took a much needed leg stretch around temple square.

Final score Fish 3, Humans 1
We went fishing a few times, but only our cousin and his father caught a fish. We all left with limbs still intact albeit a few hooks and bobs were left behind in the reeds. It was still fun to go to the ponds.

Garrett and I went on a date to one of the lakes. If only we had on water pants would we have caught anything. It was as if the fish were teasing and taunting us. How rude!!

Horses, horses, horses, ye-ha!!

Kayla and I got to drive through some beautiful scenery and passed a white water rafting station on our way to a horse riding company. I did get lost a few times, but we made it and were the only ones for that time slot so we had the guide all to ourselves. She was a very nice lady and had been around horses all her life. The ride was an hour long and took us along an old logging road. In the picture of us two we are at the top of the trail. Green all around-trees, hills, grass, it was wonderful. The weather was perfect as well, warm with a slight breeze to off-set it.
I don't remember the name of Kayla's horse, mine was Randy. Paul and I laughed at that. I was sore for a few days afterwards because Randy liked to eat whenever I put my guard down, so in order to catch up to the other horses, he would go into a slow trot.

Had lunch by a huge tree perfect for climbing.

We took a side path to get to the top of the hill and the view was incredible. Just miles and miles of greenery. Then some of us took the shortest route down and continued our walk to a nearby trail that looped around the base of the hill.

The kids built their own fairy homes out of bark, twigs, rocks and leaves. They enjoyed seeing each day if there had been any visitors:)

We had so much fun at the Fourth of July parade in Idaho. There were lots of emergency vehicles (which as you can tell were a bit too loud for Elsie and her cousin Tyler), biker clubs, off road vehicles, classic cars, professional horse riders, and the best part was the candy being tossed to the kids from the cars.

Feeding fish at the hatchery. The shimmer is actually the masses coming to feed.
